Summer in San Francisco

I've now been back in San Francisco for 2 months.  What have I been doing that I've not even had time to update my "travel blog" from the last entry in Cebu? Aside from the regular "settling back" to this city I've called home for over a decade, I've been meeting up with many friends.  But most of my time has been dedicated to volunteering with Room To Read, a non profit organization based in SF I've been supporting since 2007.  I started out the week after my return on a new fundraising project, Namaste India, to recruit yoga studios around town.  A few days later, I found myself leading the project!  Little did I know what I was getting into then.

With the help of a few strong wonderful volunteers, we managed to round up 11 yoga classes for the event that fell on June 16th.  I taught 2 classes, one in the park (where the picture above was taken) and another at Yoga Loft, where I now teach a regular class.  I'm quite happy to report the day of yoga raised about $3,000 for the children in India.   If you'd like to support, please go to: http://roomtoread.kintera.org/gep/yogamag.  THANK YOU!

Ah, another exciting that just happened - I got my first private yoga student!  She's a 70 year old lady who's never done yoga before...in fact, never stretched ever.  It was quite a challenge that's got me hooked.  She's of course, the mother of a good friend, who is in excellent health.  It got me interested in taking a full on training for teaching yoga to seniors at Duke Integrative Health Center this Fall.  My only hurdle is the $2000 price tag.  We'll see.  For now, I'm focusing on the trip back to Penang in August.  Adieu!
